Built
on the hill overlooking Portage Cove, Ft. Seward is an impressive sight
to behold. We'll tour this historic area as well as travel along
the coast to the Chilkoot River
to view wildlife, search for brown bears, and view the
magnificent glacier fed lake and river. This is the way
Alaska is supposed to look!
Along
the banks of the Chilkoot River, the brown bears feed on the spawning
salmon, particularly
later in the summer (August & September) as the salmon runs heighten and the fall approaches. Because
of the large abundance of salmon, there are eagles
and other shore birds in this area as well.

Haines" Take an exciting Raft trip through the Chilkat Bald

:: What to Wear
::
Alaska is
very informal, so unless you are going to a formal night on
a cruise ship, you can dress very casually. Wear layers so
you can remove them if need be during the day. Don't forget
a rain jacket, hat with a visor and comfortable walking
shoes.
